Day 132: Seeing Through Filters

A camera only helps me become aware of the lenses that I use to filter the world. But really, I know i’m wearing different filters constantly. Anything I see, perceive or experience is just going to be filtered through my own personal lens. And just imagine that every person in the world has their own unique filter.

How the heck are you supposed to live in a world that’s so subjective?

Transparency

Yesterday’s spontaneous photoshoot was entirely satisfying. I love setting the mood of a photo with such simple elements: a cloudy and wet afternoon. Handprints. Wax paper and a car windshield.

Mind’s Eye… plus 100 Subscribers Bonanza!

I haven’t done any fancy shoots as of yet, but here are a collection of more experimental photos I took yesterday evening. And I suppose that’s the beauty of the experiment: it’s all trial and error and there’s never any pressure.

Here are even more of my “glass” shots; this I used myself to play with portraiture. I know these photos have a double-exposure look, but that’s the magic of the glass that I love so much. The only photoshop work here is color editing, the rest is all camera work.

Again, these are trials for a one-day-future series I want to do on the mind featuring portraits of many people. When that’ll be, I have no clue. But until then I’m going to keep playing with what I have on hand, which is my camera, my piece of glass…and I get myself as the model.

And! Before I forget, I want to announce that 365 Gingerberries has reached over 100 subscribers!! This is major milestone. I know it’s been a couple years and it may not be much compared to other blogs, but I never thought this Gingerberry project would last this long. Here is to many more happy blogging days to come. Thank you everyone for your support! I really would not have continued this website without any of you.

The Difference of Cinema

I have something special for you today; finally a quality post. Some real photography, and not just close ups of berries or anything like that..! The 12 images below are just 12 of 600+ other “film stills” of a one-minute stop motion animation I made. Until I find a way to convert my swf flash file into something the internet accepts, i’ll just share these photos with you.

The video, although meant to be more of an animation project was, not surprisingly, turned into a photography project. These images are inspired by a previous series of photos I did over a year ago (see here and here). As you can see, i’ve been thoroughly exploring the element of glass and reflection in my photos for some time now.

The concept behind the video is very broad but deals with the idea of a person’s perception of reality and how it’s completely warped and distorted by our own perceptions. We all see our world through our own lens, and sometimes it might be clean and clear, and sometimes it completely covered over.

I hope you can experience a similar meaning when looking through these few photos. Keep on the watch out for more posts; I hope to start updating this blog regularly soon! :)

It’s all about what you’re willing to see. Our perception is our reality.

Day 87: When the Flash is So Bad it’s Good

It’s been 87 days, and 87 photos thus far published on this blog. And I’ll admit it, out of all those amazing days and shots, this one is one of my favorites.  Surprising? It should be. There’s nothing apparently good with this photo, if you even want to call it that. The subject isn’t even apparent, there are so many light sources and the angle is so awkward. Not to mention the heavy on-camera flash that’s guaranteed to ruin any photo.

The only plausible reason I can give is that when something gets to the level of sucking so bad, it just really becomes good. I have no idea why, but i’m guessing it’s some kind of universal law.

Or maybe I just like awkward things. Awkward but beautiful; if that was my artistic label, I could live with that.

There are few instances when something is so bad that it becomes amazing. This is one of them
